21 new High Court Justices appointed, sworn-in

Twenty-one(21) new Justices of the High Court have been appointed and sworn in by the President.

The new Justices are made up of sixteen(16) Circuit Court Judges and five(5) Private legal practitioners.

They are; Justices Abigail Animah Asare, Dorinda Smith-Arthur, Veronique Praba Tetteh, Charles Kwasi Acheampong, Arit Nsemoh, Abdul-Razak Musah, Samuel Djanie Kotey, and Stephen Kumi.

Also, Justices Abass Abubakari Adams, Felix Datsomor, Agnes Opoku-Barnieh, Afia Owusuaa Appiah, Ellen Ofei-Ayeh, Winnie Amoatey-Owusu, Enid Marful-Sau, and Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie all from the Circuit Court.

Additionally, Justices Ernest Pascal Gemadzie, Nathan Parker Yarney, Oliver Abada, Frimpong Amoako, and Akosua Dansoa Asiama Christopher who were private legal practitioners.

Per Article 139(4) of the 1992 Constitution, “A person shall not be qualified for appointment as a Justice of the High Court unless he is a person of high moral character and proven integrity and is of at least ten years’ standing as a lawyer.”

Also according to Article 144(3) of the 1992 Constitution, “Justices of the Court of Appeal and of the High Court and Chairmen of Regional Tribunals shall be appointed by the President acting on the advice of the Judicial Council.”
