In a tragic turn of events, one person has been reported dead following a shooting incident that took place in the Bawku Municipality on Wednesday afternoon.
Five others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed health facility in the Upper East Region.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Amadu Hamza, confirmed the incident to GBC News, revealing that the unfortunate incident occurred in close proximity to the Bawku Police station.
As of now, the police have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting.
According to Mr. Amadu, the assailants, whose identities remain unknown, approached the police station and began firing shots indiscriminately, resulting in the death of one person and injuring five others. The motive behind the attack has yet to be determined.
The incident has left residents in the Gingande area of Bawku Township feeling fearful and insecure.
This is due to the fact that the police station vicinity has experienced five to six shooting incidents within the past three months, without any arrests being made.
The unsettling nature of the situation was further intensified later in the night, as sporadic gunshots continued to reverberate throughout the municipality.
These gunshots prevented residents from getting a peaceful night’s sleep, highlighting the growing tension and concern surrounding the issue of safety and security in the area.
Authorities are now under pressure to address the recurring incidents and ensure the safety of the residents. As investigations continue, residents are hopeful that swift action will be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace in the community.
