A respected lawyer and minister, Rev. Mrs. Nana Kegya Appiah-Adu, has launched a comprehensive book on banking law, marking a milestone in Ghana’s legal landscape.
The launch event attracted notable figures, including the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison and the President-Elect of the Ghana Bar Association, Mrs. Efua Ghartey.
The book titled ‘Concise Law of Banking’ aims to provide an in-depth examination of Ghana’s banking law, offering a much-needed resource for legal professionals, students, and anyone involved in the banking and financial sectors.
Motivation
At the launch, the author, Rev. Mrs. Nana Kegya Appiah-Adu, revealed that she had compiled the book based on years of teaching banking law and extensive research into the country’s regulatory framework.
She also shared insights into the journey that led to the creation of the book.
“I designed a banking law course for professional law students and faced the challenge of finding adequate resources on Ghana’s banking law,” she said.
“After teaching banking law at both the Bank of Ghana Training School and the Ghana School of Law, I realised the need for a comprehensive textbook covering Ghanaian banking law. Motivated by this gap, she began compiling and researching cases and materials for her notes, which were later transformed into the book.
Appiah-Adu then expressed hope that the book would set a new standard and become a key reference point for people involved in Ghana’s banking and legal systems.
For his part, Dr. Ernest Addison congratulated Appiah-Adu, recognising the book as a significant contribution to the literature on Ghana’s banking regulatory system.
“This book is a landmark achievement. It provides essential insights into the regulatory framework of banking law in Ghana. I highly recommend it to policymakers seeking a deeper understanding,” Dr. Addison stated.
Mrs. Efua Ghartey also praised the work, calling it “user-friendly, authoritative, and well-researched.” She further emphasised that the book was the first comprehensive work on banking law in Ghana authored by a female lawyer, highlighting its importance for the legal and banking sectors.
The book covers critical topics such as bank regulation, banker-customer relationships, electronic banking, and money laundering, making it a valuable tool for professionals in the financial sector, law students, and legal practitioners.
