Okaikwei Central: Patrick Boamah to challenge parliamentary election results in court

Patrick Yaw Boamah, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central has decided to contest the results of parliamentary election in court. This follows the declaration of Baba Abubakar Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the winner.

Baba Sadiq secured 15,383 votes, narrowly defeating Patrick Boamah, who garnered 14,949 votes as per the results declared by the Electoral Commission.

Reacting to the declaration, Patrick Boamah said he was going to seek legal redress in court the moment the gazette is made.

“I know I have won the election. So if I have won the election, I don’t have to use violent means to take my seat. I have to respect due process. And that is what we are going to follow. I have asked my party members and supporters to remain calm whiles we go through the due process. So we came to have a discussion with the lawyers, we are putting our documents together, once the gazette is made and the time limited for filing the petition is due, we will take the right steps…, we are going to the High Court,” Mr Boamah said.

He suggested that anomalies in the collation process and issues surrounding some polling station results warranted a closer examination of the declared outcome. While he refrained from providing specifics, he maintained his confidence in the judiciary to adjudicate the matter fairly.
