The Ghana Police Service has arrested 26 persons for toy gun-related crimes. The suspects are currently assisting with investigations and will be put before court to face justice. In a statement, the police said a quantity of toy guns have been retrieved from the suspects as part of police investigation into the menace.
The police statement indicated that the conduct contravened Section 207 of Act 29:
Offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace
A person who in a public place or at a public meeting uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace or by which a breach of the peace is likely to be occasioned, commits a misdemeanour.
Police operations are currently underway nationwide to apprehend others involved in this growing trend, which has been emerging in certain parts of the country.
“We would like to once again assure the public that the Police will do all that it takes for our beloved country to continue to be at peace with herself,” the police said in the press statement.
