Eighty-nine suspects have been arrested in connection with various offenses following post-election incidents across the country.
Out of this number, 40 suspects have been directly linked to acts of vandalism, looting, and destruction of properties.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, Ghana Police Service, disclosed this during a media briefing in Accra on Monday.
She assured the public that the suspects were in custody and would face justice through due legal processes.
“We caution individuals to desist from acts of violence as perpetrators will be arrested and prosecuted,” she said.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi outlined some of the measures undertaken by the security agencies to maintain peace, law, and order in the post-election phase.
These include: increased visibility of security personnel through intensified patrols in various locations; intelligence-led operations within communities to identify and apprehend perpetrators; static security at state facilities to prevent further vandalism or looting and engagement with government officials and other stakeholders to address specific concerns.
She said a special investigative team had been tasked with reviewing video evidence of the incidents to identify all individuals involved.
“Every person captured participating in these acts will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” ACP Ansah-Akrofi assured.
The Police assured Ghanaians of their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and the protection of properties.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation during the electoral period and urged all stakeholders to remain calm.
“We assure everyone that Ghana will remain peaceful, and your security is our priority,” she said.
