Miner jailed for stabbing mason at Nsuaem

A 28-year-old miner has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for stabbing a mason with a knife on his back severally at Nsuaem in the Western Region. Joseph Ntiful, the convict, pleaded guilty with an explanation for causing unlawful harm: contrary to section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (29/60). The court presided over by Hathia Ama Manu rejected Ntiful’s explanation, saying, he would be punished to serve as a deterrent to every Ghanaian out there, especially the youth. In addition, a compensation of GH¢10,000 was awarded by the court against Ntiful. Superintendent Juliana Essel-Dadzie, prosecuting, said the complainant, James Adu, and Ntiful were both residents of Nsuaem in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality. She said on June 4, 2024, at about 8:30 pm, Adu saw Ntiful standing beside a motorbike in his house, and he asked about his mission and even went further to know if he was looking for his landlord. Prosecution said Ntiful did not utter a word, and this compelled Adu to draw closer, but he ordered him to stay away from him, got furious and started raining insults on Adu. She said a misunderstanding ensued between the two but other tenants who overheard them shouting came out of their respective rooms to prevent them from fighting. Afterwards, a witness advised Adu to stay away as it was late and he could be attacked, but suddenly Ntiful stabbed Adu with a knife and he went to the Nsuaem Police station to complain. Superintendent Essel-Dadzie said while the duty bearers were hunting for Ntiful who went into hiding, they gave out a Police medical report form to Adu to visit the health facility, who later returned the form to the Police after treatment. Police arrest man in Central Region shooting incident

The Police on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, arrested one person in connection with a shooting incident at Bereku in the Central Region which left one injured. The suspect, Nai Akwasi Lartey, who was wielding a pump action gun, shot and injured one person during the Awubia Festival. In a press release issued by the Police Public Affairs Department and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the victim (name withheld), was sent to the hospital for medical attention. “The pump action gun with some BB cartridges have been retrieved from the suspect,” it said. It said, “Suspect Nai Akwasi Lartey is in Police custody assisting the investigation”. GNA

Woman jailed 18 months for stabbing tailor in the neck

An Adentan Circuit Court has sentenced a 25-year-old launderer to 18 months in prison for stabbing Tetteh Adzidoboh in the neck with a broken bottle. Ayisha Attoman claimed that Adzidoboh beat her son while they were playing. Attoman , however, got offended by the complainant’s action and engaged him in a fight. She was charged with causing harm. She pleaded guilty. The court presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Kwadam, sentenced Attoman on her own plea. In imposing the sentence, the court recognized the gravity of the injury she caused the complainant, but determined that she was a first-time offender, and she pleaded guilty to the charge on her appearance. The court ruled that Attoman’s one-and-a-half-year-old child be placed in the custody of her relatives. It further ordered the Department of Social Welfare to furnish the court with a written report on the challenges concerning Attoman’s son. The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Anim Darko, stated that the complainant, Tetteh Adzidoboh, is a tailor from “Abenwoha” Adenta. Attoman also lives in the same area. On June 19, 2024, around 1000 hours, Adzidoboh went to a drinking bar in Abenwoha to wait for an associate who had sewed his clothes. According to the prosecution, Attoman arrived at the same bar with her one-and-a-half-year-old son and purchased a drink for Adzidoboh since they were friendly. It said that after some time, Adzidoboh began playing with Attoman’s son. The prosecution said Attoman became enraged and attacked Adzidoboh for beating her child. The court heard that witnesses on the scene intervened and separated Attoman and Adzidoboh. Adzidoboh was escorted out of the bar, while Attoman was asked to stay until tempers cooled. The prosecution said Attoman stepped out of the bar and engaged Adzidoboh in a fierce fight, stabbing him in the neck. Adzidoboh sustained injuries and was sent to the hospital for treatment. During the interrogation, Attoman admitted to the offence. GNA

Court remands mason for stabbing pregnant fiancée

The Ashaiman Circuit Court has remanded Stephen Nartey a 39-year-old mason, into police custody for stabbing his pregnant fiancée, Miss Charity Osoom, in the abdomen, right hand, and right breast with a knife. The court presided over by Mr. Simon Gaga remanded Nartey, whose plea was not taken for the charge of causing harm. Police Chief Inspector Christian Oscar Norgbedzi, presenting the facts to the court, said the 38-year-old victim is a caterer who resides at Ashiaman Newtown, whiles the accused person also stays at old Ashaiman-Tulaku. He said on March 21, 2024, at about 1700 hours, the Ashaiman Divisional Command, received a distress call from one ‘Freedom’ making a complaint that a pregnant woman had been stabbed at Ashaiman-Middle East near Pleasant Medical Centre. He said the police proceeded to the scene, and with the assistance of some good Samaritans, the victim was sent to Pleasant Medical Centre for treatment and later referred to the Tema General Hospital, where she is still receiving medical care. The prosecution said her condition became stable, while investigations established that she was six months pregnant and resided with Nartey as his fiancée at Tulaku. The prosecution said on March 18, 2024, the victim moved to stay with her grandmother at Ashaiman-Newtown due to the abusive conduct of the accused person. He said on March 21, 2024, when she had closed from work and was on her way home, she met Nartey near a big gutter in the Ashaiman-Middle East, Pleasant Medical Centre area. He said a misunderstanding ensued between them during which the accused person pulled out a knife from his clothing and stab her two times on the right breast, right hand, and abdomen. According to the prosecution, she sustained deep cuts on her abdomen and started bleeding from the stabbing, while Nartey fled upon seeing the wounds, but the victim raised an alarm, and he was arrested by people who went to her aid. The prosecution said the knife used for the stabbing was retrieved by police when they visited the scene, adding that, investigations were still ongoing. GNA

Trotro driver in remand for stabbing passenger over 50 pesewas

Michael Oppong, a 51-year-old ‘trotro’ driver, has been remanded into Police custody by the Ashaiman Circuit Court for stabbing a passenger with a knife over an additional 50 pesewas lorry fare charge. The victim, Ketogloh Mawunyegah Edoh, has since been treated for his wounds and discharged from the hospital to await further treatment. The plea of Oppong, who was charged with causing harm, was not taken and was remanded by the court, presided over by Mr Simon Gaga, to reappear on March 25, 2024. However, the court will wait for the outcome of a surgery to be conducted on the victim, to ascertain the severity of the harm caused to him, as well as remove an object identified by medics in the stabbed area. Police Chief Inspector Joyce Nyarko, prosecuting, said the complainant in the case was Dziedzorm Edoh, the wife of the victim, who claimed that on February 5, 2024, at about 2030 hours, the victim alighted from Oppong’s vehicle at Global, a suburb in the Tema West Municipality, after joining it at Adjei-Kojo. According to the prosecution, a misunderstanding ensued between the victim and the accused person over a 50 pesewas balance, which the accused demanded from the victim after he offered to pay Gh₵ 4.50 pesewas instead of five cedis. Chief Inspector Nyarko said the two quarreled and during which Oppong took a knife from under his foot carpet at the driver’s side of the vehicle and stabbed the victim with it at his back. She said some onlookers assisted to disarm the accused person of the knife and rushed the victim to the New Crystal Hospital for treatment. The prosecution said someone then alerted the complainant at home which was few metres from the scene, who, together with others, handed over the accused person to the Kanewu Police station, where a report was made. Madam Nyarko said Oppong was re-arrested, and the knife retained as an exhibit, while police proceeded to the said hospital and met the victim on admission, responding to treatment. Chief Inspector Nyarko said the victim was issued with a police medical report form, which the victim returned after being discharged from the hospital two days after the incident.
