Teacher jailed in Tarkwa for defiling 13-year-old student

A teacher, who defiled his student at Attakrom in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit Court. The convict, Benjamine Hanson, pleaded not guilty to the offence but after the case had gone through full trial he was found guilty and convicted accordingly. Superintendent of Police Juliana Essel-Dadzie, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mrs Hathia Ama Manu that the complainant is the victim’s mother, and both resided at Nsuaem. The victim, a 13-year-old and a Junior High School one student attended school in Nsuaem where Hanson taught Career Technology and Computering. She said on Sunday March 12, 2023, the victim visited Hanson in his house at Attakrom and he had sexual intercourse with her after which the victim left to her house, but she did not inform anyone. On Friday March 31, 2023, the victim paid another visit but someone who knew the victim’s sister saw them, and the person informed her that Hanson was having an affair with the victim. Prosecution said the victim’s sister informed her parents and when they confronted the victim she answered in the affirmative. The victim’s parents arrested Hanson and handed him over to the Nsuaem police and lodged a formal complaint against him. Superintendent Essel-Dadzie said during investigation Hanson admitted having carnally known the victim, claimed he proposed love to her, and she agreed. Farmer sentenced to 24 years for defiling pupil

The Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced a 56-year-old farmer to 24 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 10-year-old pupil. The convict, Kwaku Sarfo, who is popularly known as Kantanka was convicted on his own plea when he appeared before the court presided over by Mrs Hathia Ama Manu. Although, Sarfo pleaded for mercy, the court rejected his plea and imposed the sentence on him to deter men of his calibre from committing such offences against innocent girls in Tarkwa and its environs. Superintendent of Police, Juliana Essel-Dadzie, prosecuting told the court that the complainant was a farmer and father to the victim, a primary four pupil, and both resided at Anokwa in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality with Sarfo. She said on Thursday, March 28, 2024, around 1300 hours, the victim was sent by her parents to fetch water from a nearby stream for domestic use. Prosecution said while on the way, Sarfo who was the complainant’s neighbour, called the victim and gave her a white margarine container to fetch water for him. Superintendent Essel-Dadzie said when the victim returned with the water, Sarfo asked her to take it to his room, and she did, and he followed her, locked the door and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. Sarfo, after satisfying his sexual desire, threatened the victim not to disclose it to anyone, and asked her to go home. Prosecution said the following day, the complainant noticed the victim was bleeding from her vagina and he interrogated her, but she kept quiet, and the complainant together with the wife took her to the Prestea Government Hospital for treatment. Superintendent Essel-Dadzie said the victim informed the medical officer who examined her at the facility about her ordeal in the hands of Sarfo. The complainant was immediately informed and he lodged a case with the Prestea police, and he was issued a medical report form in respect of victim to be taken to the hospital for endorsement. Prosecution said after the act Sarfo went into hiding, but on Saturday, March 30, 2024, he was picked up in Prestea by the police. GNA

Court slaps carpenter with 50 years for defilement

Francis Cudjoe, a 19-year-old carpenter, has been sentenced to 50 years imprisonment by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for defiling a Primary Two pupil. He pleaded guilty with an explanation, but the court overruled it. Although, Cudjoe was charged with defilement on count one and two, and was sentenced to 25 years each which run consecutively, the offences were committed in 2023 and 2024 respectively Before judgement was passed, Cudjoe went on his knees and said: “My Lady, l have wronged; l beg everyone in court, especially the mother of the victim to forgive me.” The prosecutor, Police Superintendent Juliana Essel-Dadzie, told the court presided over by Mrs Hathia Ama Manu, that the complainant is a mother of the victim aged seven-year-old and both live at Bankyim, a suburb of Tarkwa. She said the complainant operates a chop bar and Cudjoe, who is a close friend, usually runs errands for her. Superintendent Essel-Dadzie said Cudjoe took advantage of the relationship between him and the complainant and started sneaking into the victim’s room to have sexual intercourse with her since 2023. Prosecution said in March 2024, Cudjoe had sex with the victim again, while the complainant had left home to church. On March 13, 2024, two teachers in the victim’s school confronted her (victims) that Cudjoe had been reported to the police for defiling a pupil in their school and considering her close relationship with him, they highly suspected he might have committed similar offence against her. The court heard that the victim then informed them that Cudjoe was having sex with her since 2023. Superintendent Essel-Dadzie said the teachers, after questioning the victim, narrated everything to their colleague and she contacted the complainant and broke the news to her. The Prosecution said with the information from the school, the complainant reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Tarkwa and Cudjoe was arrested and detained to assist with investigations. She said the police issued a medical form to the complainant on behalf of the victim to be examined at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital and same was endorsed and returned to the police. GNA

Farmer Convicted for Defiling 6 year old girl

A 39-year-old farmer, who defiled a six-year-old girl under a palm tree at Dompim-Pepesa in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality has been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit Court. Samuel Attomoh was charged with defiling a female below age 16 contrary to section 101 of the criminal offences Act 1960 (Act 29). He admitted the crime and pleaded guilty but asked for mercy from the presiding judge, Mrs Hathia Ama Manu, “saying l did not know what came over me to have committed the offence.” Mrs Manu convicted Attomoh on his own plea and sentenced him accordingly. Superintendent of Police Juliana Essel-Dadzie, prosecuting said the complainant, Comfort Adjei, a trader, lived with the victim at Dompim-Pepesa. She said Attomoh who lived in the same neighborhood was a friend to the grandparents of the victim. The prosecutor said the complainant traveled to Mankesim and left the victim and her siblings in the care of their uncle. On Monday January 1, 2024, around 10:00 am, Attomoh went to visit his friends, but he met the victim and her siblings playing. He took advantage of their absence and lured the victim behind their house, sat on a bench under a palm tree, took the victim onto his lap, shifted her pants, and defiled her. Superintendent Essel-Dadzie said while the act was going on a neighbour who was passing by chanced on Attomoh, screamed and he fled and went into hiding. The prosecutor said on the same day around 12:00 pm, Comfort arrived at Dompim-Pepesa and the victim informed her of what happened. The complainant then reported to the Police, and she was issued with a medical form to take the victim to the Hospital for medical attention and report. Prosecution told the court that the complainant returned the medical form endorsed by a medical officer at the Apinto Government Hospital, informed the Police that the victim had been examined and treated. Superintendent Essel-Dadzie said Attomoh was later smoked out from his hideout, interrogated, and put before court. GNA
