The New Lawyer’s Toolkit: A Primer on District Court Practice in Ghana

The transition from law school to practice is often daunting — especially when it comes to navigating Ghana’s District Courts. Though they are the most numerous and accessible courts in the country, the Ghana School of Law curriculum offers little practical exposure to their procedures.

To bridge this critical gap, we invite new lawyers and pupils to join “The New Lawyer’s Toolkit” — a free 2-hour interactive webinar designed to provide practical guidance, real courtroom insight, and professional grounding for practice at the District Courts.

Our facilitator, Her Honour Nana Adwoa Serwaa Dua-Adonteng, brings a wealth of experience from both the corporate and judicial worlds. Before her appointment to the Bench, she served in senior legal roles at LMI Holdings Limited and Total Petroleum Ghana Limited, and as Off-Counsel for Alexander & Partner Rechtsanwälte mbB, representing European clients in Ghana.

Today, she serves as a Circuit Court Judge in Kumasi, presiding over a Gender-Based Violence Court, and continues to shape young minds as a Legal Systems lecturer at the Presbyterian University, Kumasi and a mentor under the Chief Justice’s Orange Girls’ Justice Club.

In this session, Her Honour will explore topics that include:

  • How to approach District Court practice with confidence and professionalism.
  • Practical steps for filing, advocacy, and courtroom conduct.
  • The dos and don’ts of District Court litigation.
  • How to build credibility and rapport in your early years of practice.

Whether you’re newly called, awaiting your first brief, or finding your footing in practice, this webinar promises the insights and practical know-how you wish you’d learned in school.
