Asamankese Circuit Court in Eastern Region has sentenced Isaac Opare, a 34-year-old labourer, and his accomplice Kingsley Gyadu, aged 29, to nine years and twelve months imprisonment respectively for their involvement in stealing home appliances valued at GHC 259,990.
The stolen items belonged to Isaac Kwame Okyere Darkwa, a Ghanaian businessman based in the UK. Gyadu was found guilty of aiding and abetting Opare in the commission of the crime.
The stolen items included: four 72-inch LG televisions valued at GHC 54,800.00 each, one 70-inch LG smart Television valued at GHC 13,700.00, and two 65-inch LG smart televisions valued at GHC 14,000.00 each.
The rest are five 43-inch LG smart televisions valued at GHC 24,000.00 each, two 32-inch LG smart televisions valued at GHC 7,200.00 each, and 200 pieces of brand new bed sheets valued at GHC 24,000.00.
Others are 21 kettles valued at GHC 2,850.00, 7 bedside refrigerators valued at GHC 11,500.00, Cooking utensils (value not specified), three double mattresses valued at GHC 10,000.00 each Woolen carpets (value not specified), 347 brand new towels valued at GHC 40,160.00, door mats (value not specified), 39 10kg bags of peacock rice valued at GHC 13,650.00 each, unspecified bottles of pejo mineral water, five bottles of cooking oil valued at GHC 130.00 each, five bottles of XO foreign drink valued at GHC 37,200.00 and VSOP foreign drink valued at GHC 4,800.00.
The theft occurred between January and December 2023 at Abesim Asamankese where the complainant has a mansion.
All the accused persons Isaac Opare alias KK, and Kingsley Gyadu, as well as Emmanuel Danso alias Gadafiat, Kojo Osei, and Collins all three at large, are friends of the complainant living in the same vicinity with the complainant.
Opare, had access to the complainant’s mansion as he was its caretaker.
Upon discovering the theft, the complainant reported the matter to the police, leading to Opare’s arrest.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Gyadu and Emmanuel Danso, who managed to evade arrest, were involved in the theft and harbored stolen items.
Danso’s room yielded several stolen items upon police search.
The accused persons were charged after thorough investigations.
